Amidst uncertainty over how the US-China trade war might affect the region, the 2019 Bloomberg ASEAN Business Summit tackled the question, “What will business in Southeast Asia look like over the next year?”. The 5th edition of this annual summit, held Friday, June 21st, featured a star-studded lineup of speakers, representing ASEAN’s public and private sector leadership.

The Summit kicked-off early, at 7:30, with the Special Breakfast Briefing: Click, Save, Shop, and an opening address by Bangkok Bank President, Chartsiri Sophonphanich, followed by a panel discussion. Throughout the day, the audience was treated to addresses, two by sitting prime ministers, and discussions on topics of vital interest to ASEAN today.

Panel discussions featured some of the region’s leading names in technology, finance and industry, and were moderated by Bloomberg’s top Asia correspondents. Topics included such vital matters as the trade war, national and regional development, real estate, shared prosperity, e-commerce, fintech, infrastructure development, automotive industry, foreign direct investment and sustainable tourism.
